Year 1

Overview

This year the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at the University of Minnesota--Twin Cities is piloting the Minnesota Educator Dispositions System. The purpose of this work is to improve the ways teacher candidates are coached for dispositions for teaching. All teacher preparation programs in MN are required to assess teacher candidates’ dispositions for teaching. In other words, assessing dispositions is not new but the approach we are taking in our pilot this year is! We are excited to offer teacher candidates a more robust framework to understand, develop, and enact dispositions during their teacher preparation program. We are equally excited to offer teacher educators (cooperating teachers, supervisors, etc.) a framework for coaching dispositions for teaching and for identifying evidence of a teacher candidate’s dispositions.

Participation

Teacher candidates, university clinical supervisors, cooperating teachers, faculty, and staff across licensure program areas in CEHD are participating in this year's pilot. The research team is providing on-going support and professional development to participants, throughout the pilot year.
